AMAIE Energia e Servizi digitizes separate waste collection with the Junker app

AMAIE Energia e Servizi digitizes separate waste collection with the Junker app

In the province of Imperia, the summer brings important developments in waste management. AMAIE Energia e Servizi has decided to take a digital step forward in the environmental services offered across the area, strengthening its collaboration with the Junker app.

14 new municipalities and 82,000 additional residents served

A further 14 municipalities in the Imperia area are joining Sanremo and those already served by the app, providing 82,000 additional residents with a high-tech tool that is free to download and easy to use. The app allows users to find all the information needed to sort waste correctly, check door-to-door collection schedules, locate collection points, and access municipal environmental services with a single click.

Commitment to efficient and modern environmental services

AMAIE Energia e Servizi renews its commitment to delivering an efficient, modern service that responds to user needs, offering clear and immediate information to everyone who wants to comply with separate waste collection rules. Services are carried out regularly, and it is essential that both citizens and tourists know how to access them correctly.

AMAIE Energia e Servizi on collaboration and sustainability

“The hope,” the company states, “is that the use of this application will encourage increasingly concrete and responsible collaboration between users and the service operator, benefiting the urban environment and the sustainability of the territory.”

Recognising waste through barcodes

With Junker, users can access validated and geo-referenced information to correctly sort any type of waste. Thanks to an internal database of over 2 million products, the app can recognise packaging via barcode. Simply scan the code with a smartphone camera to instantly see which materials it is made of and how it should be disposed of.

Image recognition technology for waste identification

Alternatively, users can take a photo of the product. Using advanced image recognition technology, Junker identifies the object and the materials it contains.

Geolocation-based personalised information

Since recycling rules vary across Italy, Junker uses geolocation to personalise information based on the user’s location.

Useful at home and while travelling

This makes the app useful not only at home, to avoid fines, but also when travelling to another municipality for work or holidays.

All environmental services on your smartphone

Junker also offers a notification service that reminds users each evening which waste fraction will be collected the following day. In the case of public holidays, special initiatives or emergencies, the service operator or the municipal administration can quickly inform users through direct in-app messages.

Interactive map for special waste disposal

For waste that cannot be disposed of in household bins, such as expired medicines, batteries, textiles or electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

Junker displays the collection centre and all other drop-off points on an interactive map.

In Sanremo, one family out of two already uses it

Junker is currently the most advanced and widely used app for separate waste collection in Italy.

Nationwide adoption and downloads

To date, 3.5 million families have downloaded it, and over 3,500 municipalities nationwide, including 88 in Liguria, have chosen it as a technological partner to improve their environmental performance.

Junker in Sanremo since 2018

Among them is Sanremo, where the app was first introduced in 2018 to promote high-quality separate collection, not only among residents but also among the many tourists visiting the Riviera dei Fiori.

Usage data among Sanremo households

In Sanremo, Junker is used by 52% of resident households, which have recorded 70,000 product searches and 80,000 searches for points of interest.

Available in 13 languages and accessible to all

The Junker app meets the highest standards of usability. It is fully accessible to blind and visually impaired users and is easy to use for older people.

Multilingual information for tourists and foreign workers

All information is available in 13 languages, allowing tourists and foreign workers to separate waste correctly, just like permanent residents.

Environmental and economic benefits

“Thanks to Junker, it becomes easier for municipalities and service operators to comply with the quality and transparency standards set by ARERA, ensuring users have complete and immediate access to information,” explains Noemi De Santis, Communications Manager.

Benefits for circular economy and sustainability

“This creates optimal conditions to strengthen the central role of citizens in urban waste management and provides a ‘gentle push’ towards improving not only the quantity, but above all the quality of separate waste collection, which is essential for a more circular economy and a more sustainable society.”

Environmental and economic impact for the community

The benefits for the community are both environmental, through a reduction in CO₂ emissions, and economic, since cleaner separate collection leads to lower waste management costs for municipalities and higher revenues from materials consortia.

Arma di Taggia ecomobile service in the town centre

Arma di Taggia ecomobile service in the town centre

Starting 23 September, residents will be able to dispose of household waste in a new, convenient and traceable way. The mobile recycling centre in via Blengino (former railway crossing area car park) will be operating Monday to Saturday, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Sunday opening at the Isola Manente collection centre

Please note that on Sunday afternoons, the collection centre in Isola Manente (behind Self) remains open from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Access with magnetic card

The card is personal and free of charge. It applies to domestic users in via Queirolo, via Bagni, vico Romano, via Boselli, via Cornice and via Blengino (house numbers as indicated in the official notice from the Municipality of Taggia).

Why the ecomobile service matters

The service helps reduce illegal waste dumping near former neighbourhood collection points. It also offers greater flexibility than door-to-door collection, allowing residents to dispose of waste at any time during opening hours. The use of the card ensures accurate monitoring and a tailored service. Together, we can help keep the centre of Arma cleaner and more orderly.

Invitation to residents

We look forward to seeing you at the ecomobile.

Sanremo extraordinary urban hygiene plan for the summer season

Sanremo extraordinary urban hygiene plan for the summer season

With the arrival of the summer season, Sanremo sees a significant increase in population due to seaside tourism and the return to second homes. As a result, the city is preparing to address key issues related to urban cleanliness and decorum. In this context, a new extraordinary urban hygiene plan is now in its final stages. The plan, announced by Councillor for the Environment Ester Moscato, will be officially presented in the coming days.

Strengthening cleaning activities and monitoring illegal dumping

The initiative aims to strengthen city-wide cleaning activities, increasing the frequency of street and sidewalk washing and the cleaning of areas around recycling islands, while also reinforcing actions against illegal waste dumping, which typically rises during the summer months. Alongside the established presence of the Rangers d’Italia, the Municipality plans to engage an external company to monitor and intervene during less supervised time slots.

Councillor Ester Moscato’s hands-on approach

In her first year in office within the Mager administration, Councillor Moscato adopted a hands-on approach to fine-tune the new plan. “Last week,” she explained, “I travelled across much of the municipal area by scooter to personally verify the most critical situations reported by residents. I specifically requested an increase in washing activities, but above all that they be carried out with care and rigour. As regards illegal dumping, I asked for the operational support of a private company that will soon begin patrolling sensitive areas, especially during hours not covered by the Rangers. The objective is twofold: to safeguard urban decorum and to respond concretely to residents’ concerns.”

AMAIE Energia e Servizi support for municipal measures

Support for the municipal measures also comes from AMAIE Energia e Servizi, the municipal company responsible for urban hygiene in Sanremo. Contacted on the matter, President Sergio Tommasini stated: “We are working in close coordination with Councillor Ester Moscato, municipal offices and our technical teams to strengthen our summer presence across the city. We will also engage with trade associations. An intensified operational plan has been prepared for the most critical months of the year.”

Key priorities: illegal dumping and smart eco-islands

Appointed by Sanremo Mayor Alessandro Mager, Tommasini outlined the main priorities: “There are two key areas of action. On the one hand, tackling illegal waste dumping, which according to company estimates amounts to approximately 2,200–2,500 tonnes per year, with significant impacts in terms of urban degradation and costs for the community. On the other hand, the introduction of smart eco-islands, an innovation set to profoundly change citizens’ habits regarding separate waste collection. We will face new challenges, such as shifts in disposal patterns, the possible emergence of new dumping hotspots and new forms of TARI evasion. This is a deep cultural change that will require time and cooperation.”

Summer operational goals and citizen engagement

Tommasini concluded on the summer plan: “The goal is clear: to maximize washing and sanitisation activities and to increase operational responsiveness in cases of illegal dumping, especially in the most frequented areas.” AMAIE also stressed the importance of the relationship with residents: “Our Public Relations Office handles an average of over 620 reports per month, a figure that demonstrates the active involvement of citizens and our commitment to providing timely and effective responses.”
